Privacy Policy

Distilled ("Distilled", "we", "us") is operated by Brown Butter Co. This policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and the choices you have.

1. Information we collect

• Account information: email address and password (or Google account identifier, if you sign in with Google).
• Content you submit: pasted text, URLs, YouTube links, and uploaded files (PDF, DOCX, TXT, MD) that you send us to analyze.
• Saved analysis output: for paid tiers, the breakdowns you choose to save to your Library, and a permanently retained "pattern fingerprint" (a short claim, mechanism tag, and topic label) for items you later delete, so features like Connected To keep working.
• Billing information: handled directly by Razorpay; we do not store your card or payment details ourselves.
• Usage data: credit balance, credit ledger entries, and basic technical logs (e.g. IP address, for rate-limiting and abuse prevention).

2. How we use your information

• To operate the core product: extracting and analyzing content you submit.
• To maintain your account, credit balance, and (on paid tiers) your saved Library.
• To process payments and manage subscriptions, via Razorpay.
• To prevent abuse (e.g. disposable-email and rate-limit checks).
• To send transactional email (e.g. password reset) and, if you're on a paid tier, an optional weekly Distills review summary.

3. AI processing of your content

Content you submit for analysis is sent to Anthropic (Claude) solely to generate your analysis. We do not use the content you submit to train AI models, and Anthropic's commercial API terms do not use API customer data to train their models either.

4. Third parties we share data with

We use a small number of service providers to run Distilled, each processing only what they need to perform their function:

• Anthropic (Claude API) — processes the content you submit in order to generate the analysis.
• Supabase — hosts our database and handles authentication.
• Razorpay — processes payments and subscriptions.
• Vercel — hosts the application.
• Resend — delivers transactional email.

We do not sell your personal information. Some of these providers operate outside India; where that's the case, your information may be transferred internationally as part of their normal operation of the service on our behalf.

5. Data storage and security

Your data is stored with Supabase, encrypted at rest and in transit. We use industry-standard safeguards, but no method of transmission or storage is completely secure, and we can't guarantee absolute security.

6. Cookies

We use essential cookies to keep you signed in and to protect your account (via Supabase Auth). We don't use third-party advertising or tracking cookies.

7. Data retention

Free-tier submissions are not saved anywhere after the result is shown to you. On paid tiers, saved Distills remain in your Library until you delete them or your account is closed. When you delete a saved Distill, the full breakdown is removed, but a small pattern fingerprint is kept permanently so cross-Distill features keep working — see our "How it works" panel for detail on this behavior.

8. Your privacy rights

You can view and update your account details, and change your password, from Settings at any time. To access, correct, export, or delete your personal information, or to object to a particular use of it, contact us using the details below and we'll respond within a reasonable time.

9. Children's privacy

Distilled is not directed at children, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children.

10. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time. Material changes will be reflected by an updated "Last updated" date above.
